Chelsea and Man United among clubs chasing Brazilian midfielder

Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior will expect to see his side end their losing run when they host Port Vale in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues have lost their last four matches across all competitions – a run which includes an aggregate 8-2 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and Premier League defeats against both Newcastle United and Everton.

Rosenior finds himself under increasing pressure to turn his side’s fortunes around, and the visit of League One side Port Vale could present the perfect opportunity to return to winning ways.

In the meantime, though, it is emerging that Chelsea are one of several Premier League clubs interested in a Brazilian midfielder.

As per CaughtOffside, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United are among the teams keeping tabs on Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes.

The report claims that the Brazilian is increasingly attracting attention ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

Gomes, 25, joined Wolves from Brazilian side Flamengo back in 2023 and has since made more than 120 appearances for the club across all competitions.

It is claimed that Newcastle United are also interested in the midfielder, while Serie A champions Napoli are another side credited with an interest.

The report claims that Gomes’ asking price is likely to drop from around £52 million to somewhere in the region of £35-40 million if Rob Edwards’ side are relegated; the Molineux outfit sit 13 points adrift of safety with just seven games remaining.

Gomes has more than four years remaining on his current contract with Wolves, but it appears almost certain that he will depart the club during the upcoming summer transfer window.

While Manchester United have a long-standing interest in the player, it appears that the Red Devils will likely face fierce competition in the race to land the Brazilian.
