PITTSBURGH, PA —Parking will be at a premium for the upcoming NFL Draft in Pittsburgh - and likely expensive as well.
Pittsburgh City Council is considering an ordinance that would raise the hourly public parking space rate Downtown and the North Side to $5 per hour - and get ready to pay a ton if your time expires before you return to your vehicle.
The draft will occur April 23-25 outside Acrisure Stadium and at Point State Park. The event is expected to draw as many as 500,000 people.
"Parking enforcement during the NFL Draft is likely to strain the manpower of the Pubic Parking Authority of Pittsburgh," the proposed ordinance states.
"The revenue from a temporary increase in rates Downtown and the North Side, and a corresponding increase in the violations of the parking regulations will help to offset the added expense to the Parking Authority."
People who fail to comply with the temporary increase will face a $125 fine.
Existing parking rates in the city vary from $1.50 to $4 per hour.
