April 1 – FC Barcelona have revealed that the Spotify Camp Nou redevelopment is moving into its final stages, with the reconstruction of the third tier now largely complete.
The latest update showed that the upper stands are now in place, checking off another important milestone in the redevelopment which has already spanned almost three years.
That progress comes after FC Barcelona secured a local 1C licence to occupy the North Stand last month, allowing a 20,000-capacity increase to more than 62,000.
Reports say that construction attention has now shifted to the remaining section of the South Stand – notably the area where the upper tier was first dismantled at the start of construction. Once waterproofing is completed in the coming months, installation of seating is expected to begin.
A drone video released by the club this week offers a view of how far the project has come. In recent weeks, work has also started on positioning the structural pillars that will support the stadium’s new roof, sitting above the third tier.
The target is to complete this phase of construction over the summer, although the roof itself is not expected to be installed until after the 2026/27 season. Current timelines point to full completion by the end of summer 2027, with external technical studies commissioned by the club indicating a four-month installation window, running through to October.
There remains some flexibility in that schedule – should the roofing phase extend beyond the planned timings, Barcelona have said they will open discussions with the city council to ensure continued access to the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, where they have played the large majority of their matches during the lengthy redevelopment.
