Scott McTominay’s impressive form at Napoli constantly sparks the question about a potential return to Manchester United.
The £25m earned from Scott McTominay’s sale to Napoli now looks like terrible business by Manchester United given his success in Napoli.
At the time, United sold McTominay because he was an academy graduate that boosted the club’s PSR standings. But signing Manuel Ugarte as his replacement turned out to be the wrong move.
Now, United are in the market for multiple central midfielders this summer, and McTominay has been open about loving United ever since leaving for Italy.

Gary Pallister is confident Scott McTominay will want Man Utd return
Gary Pallister knows what it means to represent United and win the biggest club trophies after spending nine years at Old Trafford as a player.
The now-60-year-old is confident that McTominay deep down would be open to a United return. As quoted by Daily Record, Pallister said: “I think Scott McTominay has got a great affinity with Manchester United and the fans. He grew up there, and I’m sure there’s a place in his heart that would feel like he’d love to come back to Manchester United, but whether that’s feasible or not, I don’t know.
“He’s a player that I probably wouldn’t have let go.

Ineos would have to make an exception for Scott McTominay
United fans would welcome McTominay back following his success in Naples, but he would have to be bought back at a much bigger fee than he was sold for.
McTominay has become an integral part of Antonio Conte’s side, so a return deal would not be cheap.
And, at 29 years old, McTominay would hardly have any resale value as a player, and that is simply not how Ineos have operated at United so far.

Ineos have preferred to sign players entering their prime or youngsters full of potential. The oldest player to arrive in an Ineos transfer window is 26.
So if McTominay’s return was on the cards, it would have to be an exception to Ineos’ transfer strategy, and we are yet to see the United chiefs stray from their blueprint.
