Kone and Leon start: How Manchester United could line up in pre-season without World Cup stars…

Manchester United are expected to give several promising youngsters a chance to impress when they begin their pre-season schedule this summer.

The Reds will be without a host of international stars due to their involvement in the World Cup, with their pre-season fixtures set to begin before the final is played. Even those who do not advance to the final stages of the international tournament are expected to be given time off following their involvement before they are required back at Carrington.

It means the likes of JJ Gabriel, Reece Munro, James Overy and Noah Ajayi could all feature in the first pre-season matches, alongside senior players who will not be at the World Cup.

With that in mind, here is a look at the strongest side that could be used in the first matches of pre-season this summer.
