Opinion: Four options to replace Marc Cucurella at Chelsea including Arsenal duo

Marc Cucurella is one player Chelsea will not want to sell when the transfer window opens in the summer.

However, with Cucurella refusing to rule out a return to Barcelona, it is something that they may have to consider. The Spaniard has just two years left to run on his contract.

With that in mind, The Chelsea Chronicle has looked at four left-backs who could replace Cucurella in the near future.

Who would you sign to replace Marc Cucurella?

He hasn't ruled out a Chelsea exit…

Myles Lewis-Skelly

Chelsea and Arsenal have done a lot of transfer business with each other in recent transfer windows, and they could be set to do some more.

Chelsea have reportedly been trying to sign Myles Lewis-Skelly, who may become open to a move at the end of the season.

The 19-year-old has only made one start in the Premier League this term, which he will not be happy about.

Riccardo Calafiori

Chelsea have also been linked with Lewis-Skelly’s Arsenal teammate Riccardo Calafiori.

Chelsea are said to see Calafiori as a centre-back, but the Italian has been playing at left-back under Mikel Arteta this season.

It means if Cucurella departs Stamford Bridge and Calafiori arrives, he could end up playing on the left side of the Blues’ defence.

Nico O’Reilly

Nico O’Reilly has been one of the best left-backs in the Premier League during this campaign. It is unlikely that Manchester City will sell him to Chelsea, especially after what has happened with Cole Palmer.

Nevertheless, it has still been reported that Chelsea are likely to make a move for O’Reilly in the summer.

It has Joe Shields written all over it after the former City employee played roles in the likes of Palmer, Liam Delap and Romeo Lavia joining Chelsea, all ex-City academy players.

Jorrel Hato

It will not be easy to sign any of the above names. It is not impossible, but the most likely outcome if Cucurella does leave Chelsea is the club promote Jorrel Hato to being a starter.

Under Liam Rosenior, the Dutchman has really impressed. He would not be the worst option, but hopefully Cucurella decides to stay put and continue as Chelsea’s first-choice left-back.
