Man Utd now interested in signing a player Jose Mourinho just called ‘fantastic’

Manchester United are showing interest in signing Benfica left-back Samuel Dahl, who is a player Jose Mourinho is already fond of.

With Ineos looking increasingly keen to invest in the left-back position, Samuel Dahl is the latest to be linked with Manchester United.

He follows United’s interest in Lewis Hall from Newcastle and also Eintracht Frankfurt star Nathaniel Brown, who has been watched by scouts.

Now, it has emerged that Jose Mourinho has tipped Dahl as a talent.

What Jose Mourinho has said about Samuel Dahl

In the midst of United’s interest, Mourinho has praised Dahl to Swedish outlet Aftonbladet, with his words coming just last week.

“I am never surprised by what my coaching colleagues do, because I respect the decisions they make. Potter will have to answer why Samuel Dahl is not in the Sweden squad.

“He has been fantastic and has had a fantastic development since I came here. He plays every minute and every game. He is very reliable in defence and is very stable offensively. A top player.”

These compliments came as Mourinho reacted to Dahl not being called up by Graham Potter for the latest round of internationals.

Mourinho doesn’t hand out this kind of praise to just anyone, as United fans know well from his brutally honest verdicts on players during his time at the club.

Do Manchester United need to replace Luke Shaw this summer?

Dahl might not be worth signing with Harry Amass’ Manchester United return

While impressive, Dahl has been playing in a Portuguese league, which is now famed for being weak outside of the big three clubs.

The Portuguese league is not that much higher a standard than the Championship, in which Harry Amass found his feet and performed excellently during his loan this season.

Amass was excellent in a poor Sheffield Wednesday side, which might make him the frontrunner to succeed Luke Shaw over the course of next season.

The teenager suits a back four and proved his defensive and attacking qualities for Wednesday, which should be enough to earn him a chance for United during pre-season.

Not to mention, Amass will cost nothing this summer.
