The New York Giants are taking a very close look at an important offensive line prospect ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft, according to the latest news and rumors from college football insider Ryan Fowler.

“Source: Utah OL Spencer Fano has a [pre-draft top] 30 visit scheduled with the New York Giants,” Fowler reported on April 1. He added that Fano is “one of the premier OL in the class.”

If the Giants were to select Fano, they’d either have to take him at No. 5 overall or trade down, because the Utah blocker is not expected to make it to round two. That makes this a crucial pre-draft visit for Big Blue and head coach John Harbaugh, as they decide which direction they’d like to go with their 2026 first-round pick.

The Giants could target several different positions on night one, including linebacker, wide receiver, running back, cornerback, safety, defensive line/edge, and the aforementioned offensive line route. Basically, outside of quarterback, tight end and special teams, no position is truly out of the question.

The Draft Network describes the 6-foot-5 Fano as a blocker with “rare technical polish,” who projects as a “day-one, high-floor starter who’s a savant in the run game.” He could play right guard as a rookie, then kick out to right tackle later in his career.

Fano was a three-year starter at Utah, so he’s very experienced. The impressive youngster has played snaps at both tackle spots, and his “fluid and flexible” athleticism makes him a candidate for any offensive line position.

Spencer Fano NFL Draft News Would Solve the Most Glaring Giants Need

Latest Giants NFL draft rumors involve Spencer Fano

There are certainly flashier first-round options, but either Fano or fellow incoming OL Francis Mauigoa profiles as the more prudent selection.

The Giants currently have no starting-caliber right guard on the roster. It’s the most glaring issue as of April 1, especially since Harbaugh has made it clear that he wants to run the football behind a strong offensive line.

That’s Fano, at his core. During the same scouting report, The Draft Network noted that “Fano has the best and most consistent technique as a run blocker [they’ve] ever scouted.”

Similarly, NFL media scouting expert Lance Zierlein relayed that Fano has “extensive reps in prominent run-blocking schemes.” Zierlein also credited the Utah starter with “good effort as a downhill blocker,” and the “footwork and body control to stay connected on move blocks.”

On top of that, Fano is viewed as a very capable, technically sound pass protector. He’d be an impact asset for Harbaugh, as well as a potential force multiplier for quarterback Jaxson Dart and running back Cam Skattebo.

Giants Draft Rumors Continue to Surround Running Back Jeremiyah Love

It’d be ironic if the Giants spent their first-round pick on running back Jeremiyah Love before filling out their starting five on the offensive line.

Harbaugh and the entire NYG beat have hinted that a Love selection is very possible at No. 5, or even “likely,” according to some assertions. And yet, it feels like an irresponsible move that Harbaugh would want no part of.

Yes, Harbaugh has shown a willingness to draft non-premium positions in round one. But he’s also preached trench warfare from the moment he took over as head coach.

How backwards would it be to talk up O-line play, then draft a running back without a starting right guard? The Giants’ Love rumors have also become so overblown that they are beginning to feel like obvious misdirection from a savvy HC.

If you listen to Harbaugh talk and truly listen to the little comments, he’s stressed two things above all else. The first is offensive line play, and the second is run defense.

That points to a top-five selection like Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles, Fano, or Mauigoa.
