A Steelers Depot daily segment. A quick hit of some Pittsburgh Steelers-related stories that may not require a complete article but nuggets worth mentioning and passing on to you guys.

Your Depot After Dark for April 1.

HEYWARD AND BETTIS COMMERCIAL

The NFL draft is only weeks away, and this year’s event means a little bit more for the Steelers because it will be held in Pittsburgh. While it’s important for them to improve their team, it’s also a big moment for the city. It should bring in a lot of business and put Pittsburgh in the spotlight.

The Steelers are working to promote the event, too. Current Steeler Cam Heyward teamed up with Hall of Famer Jerome Bettis for a commercial advertising the draft. It’s got a fun premise, and it looks like Heyward and Bettis are having a good time. They were both great on the field, and they’ve also both worked to make Pittsburgh a better place.

Ahead of the 2026 @NFL Draft in Pittsburgh (April 23–25), the NFL teamed with Steelers legends Cam Heyward and Jerome Bettis for its new ad, “Smash the Glass,” in which Bettis stops Heyward from taking a sledgehammer to a Super Bowl ring display.

RAVENS ANNOUNCER RETIRES

The Steelers and Baltimore Ravens have one of the NFL’s greatest rivalries. When the two of them play each other, sparks tend to fly. That was evident last year, when they battled for the division title in the last game of the regular season. That should add a little more fire to their games in 2026.

Unfortunately, Baltimore’s side of the rivalry will be a little different going forward. The Ravens announced on Twitter that Gerry Sandusky, their play-by-play announcer, has retired. He’s been in that role for 20 years, but now, he’s calling it a career. The Steelers also underwent an announcer change in recent years, with Bill Hillgrove retiring. It’s a sign of the times changing.

BROWNS HOLDING QB COMPETITION

The Cleveland Browns have been looking for a franchise quarterback for more than 20 years. They had a slight hit with Baker Mayfield, but they got rid of him after his play took a dip in quality. They drafted two quarterbacks last year, with Shedeur Sanders finishing out the season as the team’s starter. However, Deshaun Watson should be healthy now, and it sounds like he’ll get a shot at the starting job.

Around the NFL on Twitter shared that Browns head coach Todd Monken stated that the team will hold a quarterback competition, but the reps won’t be divided evenly. Unfortunately for them, none of their current options looks great. The draft is still coming up, though, so they could add to that group.
