Champions League club join Barcelona in the race to sign Marc Cucurella from Chelsea

There are fears amongst Chelsea fans regarding Marc Cucurella’s future at the moment, and another club have joined Barcelona as a side reported to be interested in signing him.

Cucurella questioned Chelsea’s transfer policy of signing younger players and not adding experience to their ranks for crucial situations, such as the knockout stage of the Champions League.

There is reportedly an ambition for Chelsea’s owners to tweak their strategy in the market, however they don’t want this to come at a time where their current big stars have already departed.

FINAL: Who do YOU think should be Chelsea manager next season?

Barcelona have a long-term link to the defender due to him coming through as an academy prospect, however they have been joined by another La Liga side as an interested party.

According to AS, Atletico Madrid are interested in a deal to bring in Cucurella from Stamford Bridge.

Business between the two sides has not been a rarity between the two clubs. Chelsea legend Cesar Azpilicueta ended up moving to the Champions League quarter-finalists after his time in West London came to an end.

The Blues are approaching a crossroads when it comes to one of their most experienced players. His contract has just over a year left on it.

It would go against the club’s policy to hand a big deal to a player of this age, however if they are planning to pivot in a slightly new direction, this is the best time to do so.

Who would you sign to replace Marc Cucurella?

Cucurella’s stance on leaving Chelsea

With the Spaniard’s comments going public during the international break, Blues fans feared the worst at a time where Enzo Fernandez is also seemingly contemplating a move away.

However, Cucurella is not currently interested in leaving Chelsea, and made those comments in an attempt to get the chiefs to listen to concerns that seem to run through the club.

He is the perfect role model for Jorrel Hato to work with after the promising young Dutchman joined the club last summer.

He is showing great improvements in the second half of the season, and will no doubt soon be challenging Cucurella for a regular place in the side.
