Newcastle United are now eyeing a blockbuster move to sign Manchester City star Rico Lewis this summer, according to TEAMtalk.
The Magpies have had a disappointing campaign this season and look set to miss out on European football entirely, as they sit 12th in the Premier League following defeat to Sunderland before the international break.
That has led to plans for a major rebuild within the squad this summer, with manager Eddie Howe also potentially part of that with his position not completely secured, and a new top-level defender is being targeted as the club plan for life after Kieran Trippier in particular.
Newcastle Eyeing Big Move for Lewis

Lewis, who has been described as 'extraordinary' by Pep Guardiola, started the season as the first-choice right-back following Kyle Walker's exit, but has struggled for regular football since losing his place in the side to Matheus Nunes.
The England international has started just 11 games in all competitions this season, and the 21-year-old is now being considered for a potential move away from the Etihad Stadium, despite only signing a new long-term contract last year.
Now Newcastle are planning to take advantage of his situation by making a 'blockbuster' move to bring him in to St James' Park to hand him regular football with his ability to play at right-back and in midfield seen as a contributing factor to their interest.
It's unclear what fee would be acceptable to Man City or what the Magpies would be willing to pay, but it's understood that City would not stand in his way if he asked to leave in search of more regular first-team football.
Lewis Could Be Ideal Trippier Replacement

With Trippier expected to depart the club this summer at the end of his contract, and both Man City and Arsenal showing big interest in Tino Livramento, a new right-back who can slot straight into the starting lineup is likely to be a priority for the Toon.
Lewis is someone who ticks those boxes considering his experience at the top level, but at just 21, there is plenty of room for improvement and growth in him too, which suits the type of player that Newcastle like to sign.
The youngster is likely to see Newcastle as a great landing spot too, considering how the club have helped the likes of Anthony Gordon, Livramento, Lewis Hall, and Lewis Miley develop from young players into fully-fledged Premier League stars.
