Arsenal continue to chase a transfer for Real Madrid’s Víctor Valdepeñas for the summer.

The defender came up through the ranks of Real Madrid’s youth system and has already caught Arsenal’s attention. He was dubbed ‘The chosen one’ and face of Madrid’s La Fábrica youth system.

Valdepeñas made his first team debut in Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Deportivo Alavés in December.

Xabi Alonso was then in charge and utilised him as a left-back instead of his preferred role as a central defender. That’s his only appearance for the first team.

However, he has been featuring regularly for Real Madrid Castilla [reserve team] in the third division. Valdepeñas played as a centre-back and on the left side of the defence for Real Madrid Castilla this season.

His stats per game this season for the reserve team are as follows:

Starts: 18

Total minutes: 1,822

Minutes per game: 79

Arsenal not giving up on youngster

During December, Sport Witness relayed news that the Gunners are keeping a close watch on Víctor Valdepeñas.

Two months ago, we covered claims from Spain that Mikel Arteta’s side are in the lead to sign the versatile player.

AS now pick up on that and cover the latest in a report focusing on futures of Real Madrid youngsters. The suitors are growing while scouts from several teams continue to monitor the young talents in the final phase of the season.

This includes the Spain U19 international, who is of interest to Arsenal and AC Milan. He played 78 minutes ‘with conviction’ against Alavés and his interested parties hold the same conviction.

As well as Arsenal and Milan, unnamed Bundesliga sides are still ‘in the running’ for the transfer. AS points out the player has a €50m release clause. The Premier League side have to battle with other clubs to secure his services.

Real Madrid, for their part, won’t make the final decision until May, meaning Arsenal and others have to wait for few more weeks.

Contract, value and agent info

Víctor Valdepeñas has a contract until 2030, and Transfermarkt value him at €5m. There’s no clear indication of how much Arsenal would have to pay for the transfer.

Foot Feel ISM, owned by agent Alejandro Camaño, represent the Arsenal target. Their client list includes Inter Milan star Lautaro Martínez, Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi and Lazio’s Mario Gila.
