Arsenal have emerged as frontrunners to sign highly rated Christian Kofane, with the striker’s agent Eric Depolo confirming the North London club are currently best placed to secure a summer deal.
Kofane, 19, has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Bayer Leverkusen, attracting widespread interest from across Europe following a series of impressive performances in both domestic competition and the UEFA Champions League.
Speaking in the latest round of transfer developments, Depolo acknowledged Arsenal’s strong interest and suggested that Mikel Arteta is a key admirer of the young forward. According to the agent, contact has already taken place between the club and his camp, placing Arsenal in a leading position ahead of rival suitors.
“Yes, Arsenal’s interest is genuine. The manager (Mikel Arteta, ed.) is very taken with him.”
“I think it’s still too early to say anything, but given that the player speaks Spanish, just like Mikel Arteta, and that William Saliba is originally from Cameroon, I’d say Arsenal have the best chance.”
“Yes, there is contact between me and Arsenal. But their focus is currently on winning the league – everything will fall into place from there. He is a player worth 100 million euros. With Kofane, Arsenal will have a top striker for the next 10 years.”
Despite his relative inexperience at elite level, Kofane has quickly become a regular starter, contributing seven goals and eight assists in 39 appearances this season. His blend of pace, physicality and technical ability has drawn comparisons with some of Europe’s most complete young forwards, while also earning him senior international recognition with Cameroon.
Interest in Kofane is not limited to Arsenal. Several Premier League clubs, including Chelsea and Newcastle United, are monitoring his progress, while Spanish giants Real Madrid and FC Barcelona have also been linked.
However, Arsenal’s long-standing search for a young, versatile striker could give them a decisive edge. The club are expected to strengthen their attacking options in the upcoming transfer window as they look to build on recent progress under Arteta.
Depolo added that the level of interest in his client is unprecedented, describing Kofane as “the most complete” striker in his age group and predicting he could become a leading figure in European football for the next decade
