Manchester United are set to face Paris Saint-Germain in pre-season and there will be a big spotlight on who is in charge of the Red Devils.
Michael Carrick is a frontrunner to get the Manchester United head coach role this summer after he revived the Red Devils’ Champions League hopes as an interim.
But reports suggest United are still tracking Luis Enrique as a potential candidate. The Spaniard is a world-class coach but luring him away from his project at Paris Saint-Germain could prove difficult.
Enrique wants to manage in the Premier League and it simply doesn’t get bigger than the United job. In the summer, United face PSG in pre-season and there will be extra interest about which bench Enrique is sitting on.

Carrick vs Enrique when Man Utd face PSG
United are set to stay in Europe for their 2026 pre-season tour with the World Cup taking place in the United States, and it has now been revealed that the Red Devils will face PSG in Sweden on August 8.
It will be a chance for United to go up against the 2025 Champions League winners and test themselves against one of the best sides in Europe.
What will be extremely interesting is whether Carrick is still in charge of United as the permanent boss, or whether Enrique will have taken his place and will face his former side.

What it will take for Man Utd to hire Luis Enrique this summer
First and foremost, it only feels as though Enrique’s appointment is possible if United secure Champions League qualification. With seven games remaining, it is still not a guarantee for United.
Enrique’s wages at PSG are also among the best in the world for a manager, so he would likely want a similar salary to make the move to Old Trafford.
But most importantly, it would be up to Ineos to sell United’s ambitious sporting project to Enrique. His CV consists of elite European clubs chasing football’s biggest honours.

United want to win the Premier League by 2028, and the biggest selling point for Enrique will be that he can be the head coach to bring the trophy back to Old Trafford for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.
The resurgence under Carrick this season has proven that United are not as far away from competing as many think, and Enrique could propel this side to new levels.
