Andorra chief Piqué slams 'historic robbery' in draw

Open Extended Reactions

Andorra owner Gerard Piqué slammed match officials for a "historic robbery" before having to be separated from members of Malaga's staff during Wednesday's 3-3 draw between the two teams.

The referee's report detailed how former Barcelona defender Piqué, who acquired Andorra in 2018, aggressively pursued the assistant referee before turning his ire to Malaga's coaching team.

Pique's outburst occurred at halftime, with his team 2-0 down after having a goal disallowed and conceding a penalty in stoppage time.

"Once the first half had finished, Piqué approached the assistant referee in the tunnel area in an aggressive manner," referee Alejandro Ojaos Valera wrote in his report.

"He was shouting and pointing his finger close to the assistant's face, repeating the following terms: 'This is a historic robbery' and 'I'm going to post it on Twitter.'

"Piqué also approached in an offensive manner members of Malaga's coaching team, with staff from Andorra and security personnel having to intervene to prevent the situation from escalating further."

Andorra fought back to lead 3-2 at the Estadi Nacional, only to concede an 82nd-minute equaliser in the Spanish second division match.

The result leaves Andorra 12th in the table, while Malaga are fourth, just one point behind second, the final automatic promotion spot for a place in LaLiga next season.

Piqué took over Andorra in 2018 when they were in the fifth tier and he was still playing for Barça -- he eventually retired from football in 2022.

By the start of the 2022-23 season, he had steered Andorra into the second division. They were relegated back to the third division in 2023-24, but returned straight away, leaving them just one promotion away from Spain's top flight.
