Giants and Browns rumor offers trade scenario with Chiefs lurking as threat

The Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs and New York Giants all reportedly have interest in the same prospect.

According to Essentially Sports' Tony Pauline, the prospect is Utah offensive tackle Spencer Fano, who is getting eyes from New York, Cleveland and Kansas City.

Pauline notes that Cleveland specifically believes Fano can play either side of the offensive line.

"Multiple sources have told me that Cleveland is open to moving down a few slots and will entertain trade offers, then consider selecting Fano," he said. "Yet they can’t move down too far, as the Kansas City Chiefs are also very high on Fano, who they would keep at right tackle to fill a major hole on that side of the line."

"The New York Giants are also interested in Fano and are bringing the offensive lineman in for an official 30 visit," Pauline added.

It makes sense for the Browns and Chiefs to have interest, but the Giants are at least a bit of a head-scratcher

The Browns have a big hole at left tackle, and the Chiefs are in need of someone on the right side.

As for the Giants, they have their bookends locked up with Andrew Thomas and Jermaine Eluemunor, although Thomas has had issues staying healthy. Even still, we'd suspect this is more of a smokescreen than anything else.

Pauline notes that Fano going in the top six "may be a bit rich" for the Browns, and we would guess the same can be said for New York.

Knowing that, this presents an opportunity where the Giants or Browns could move back a few picks, acquire more draft capital, and still get Fano.

The two teams sitting behind the Browns and Giants, the Washington Commanders and New Orleans Saints, don't have a need at either tackle spot, so they offer the perfect trade-back partners for both teams.

It's possible one of the Browns or Giants could trade back further than that and still land Fano, but that would be very risky with the Chiefs sitting at No. 9 and the Miami Dolphins at No. 11.
