The Buffalo Bills have already snagged a strong wide receiver in D.J. Moore, but they may not be finished yet.

The Buffalo Bills made a trade with the Chicago Bears during the offseason to bring D.J. Moore into the fold, but they may not be finished their their bold moves. While one might thing the team’s wide receiver room is set after the Moore trade, there are rumblings that the Bills are looking to add another solid wide receiver to the fold to help quarterback Josh Allen.

So, during the upcoming NFL draft, don’t be surprised if you see the Bills snag a wide receiver earlier than expected. Even though the team is largely expected to beef up on defense, they may instead look at get another budding receiver to add to the squad.

In fact, the Bills are so interested in having better receivers around Allen, that according to a report from Easton Butler of 247 Sports’ Packers Report, the Buffalo Bills are among four teams looking at a trade for Green Bay Packers wideout Dontayvion Wicks. According to Butler, teams interested in the wide receiver include the Bills, Raiders, Dolphins and Jets. “Several others are calling, but these 4 have been the most prominent,” he added.

What an Added Wide Receiver Would Bring to the Buffalo Bills

Let’s start with Wicks. Now, that would be another blockbuster trade. What would the Buffalo Bills gain by adding Wicks?

“Wicks would be able to compete with Josh Palmer and Keon Coleman as Buffalo’s No. 3 receiver behind Moore and Khalil Shakir,” Khari Demos of SI states in a Tuesday, March 31 feature. “And while he’s never been a star during his time in Green Bay, Wicks has been moderately productive since entering the league out of Virginia in 2023.”

Wicks, a fifth-round pick out of Virginia, has notched 108 receptions, 1,328 yards and 11 touchdowns in Green Bay, according to NFL research.

Although he never broke out with Green Bay, “part of the issue was he was playing in an extremely crowded WR room with Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed and Christian Watson competing for targets,” Demos states. “Not to mention, Tucker Kraft, too, at tight end.” He makes another good point that “although there are many mouths to feed in the Bills’ attack, too, Wicks would also be getting an upgrade from playing with Jordan Love to an MVP in Allen.”

Buffalo Bills May Draft a Wide Receiver Early

Another option is that the Bills may draft a receiver earlier than expected. In a Wednesday, April 1 feature for the Buffalo Lowdown, Ryan Womeldorf points out a handful of options. The earliest would be Germie Bernard out of Alabama being selected in the third round of the event.

“Bernard is interesting because he has the talent to be off the board in the second round, well before the Bills pick 91st overall,” Womeldorf states in the feature. “He has good size and plays with good strength, using a high football IQ to pick apart defenses.”

Womeldorf adds, “He’s also versatile, capable of lining up anywhere on the field. He might not have the dynamic physical traits of higher-rated receivers, but he could be one of the steals of the draft if he falls to the third round.”
