Report: Premier League admit a mistake was made during Chelsea vs Everton

The Premier League’s Key Match Incidents (KMI) Panel has formally admitted that Chelsea were wrongly denied a penalty during their recent clash with Everton.

Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat to Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium marked a low point in Liam Rosenior’s tenure, condemning the Blues to their fourth consecutive loss across all competitions. The collapse was sparked by a first-half brace from Beto, who exploited a disjointed Chelsea defence.

While Enzo Fernandez forced two world-class saves from Jordan Pickford, Chelsea’s inability to capitalise on 74% possession proved fatal.

The performance was plagued by individual errors, most notably from goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, whose distribution invited relentless pressure. Despite late cameos from Estevao Willian and Liam Delap, Chelsea appeared clueless and physically exhausted.

What should Liam Rosenior do with Enzo Fernandez?🤔

Chelsea missed out on a penalty against Everton

There was an incident during Chelsea’s 3-0 loss that has proven to be wrong. Everton defender James Tarkowski had physically disengaged from Wesley Fofana, before swinging an arm into the chest.

It was voted 3:2 that Chelsea should have been awarded a penalty, though the Toffees were then leading 3-0 in the 85th minute.

It’s a bit of a confusing one, though. The panel found the referee should have awarded the penalty, but no VAR intervention was supported 3:2.

It’s not the first time either, as Chelsea were wrongly denied a penalty against Arsenal after Declan Rice’s foul at the Emirates.
