Joe Burrow will no longer be a part of a sports league

It was not a banner year for Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals in 2025, as they missed the postseason for the third consecutive season and had their worst record since Burrow’s rookie season in 2020.

While the Bengals got off to an uncharacteristic 2-0 start, Burrow was unable to finish their Week 2 contest, as he left with a turf toe injury. That injury caused Burrow to miss Cincinnati’s next nine games. During that stretch, the Bengals went 1-8 as their playoff chances dwindled.

Burrow returned later in the season and led Cincinnati to an impressive win over Baltimore. Unfortunately, things quickly went sideways as Burrow threw two crucial interceptions, as the team lost a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter against Buffalo. Then, after getting shut out in a rematch with the Ravens, the Bengals were eliminated from playoff contention.

Following the team’s defeat in Buffalo, Burrow made headlines, as he told the media during a weekly press conference, “If I want to keep doing this, I have to have fun doing it.” Fortunately, he later stated that the comments were not directed toward the Bengals, but instead something he was feeling at the time.

Now, Burrow has announced some off-the-field news regarding one of his previous investments.

Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow Exits Sports League Ownership

Tom Demeropolis of the Cincinnati Business Courier reported that, “Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, along with his parents Jimmy and Robin Burrow, have exited from their ownership stake in Major League Volleyball.”

Demeropolis wrote:

“The Burrows joined Pro Volleyball Federation as founding partners of the indoor league in 2023. In addition, they held an ownership stake in the Columbus Fury, which launched with a roster featuring Olympians, national champions, NCAA All-Americans, international stars and more. The Fury started play in January 2024.”

The MLV vice president of public and media relations told Demeropolis “The Burrow family played an important role in the early development of professional women’s volleyball and the Columbus Fury. We are grateful for the Burrow family’s early belief in the vision and consider them valued friends of the sport.”

Burrow’s Off-Field Interests

Upon joining the MLV,Burrow previously said regarding his interest in volleyball, “I have been watching the growth of the Pro Volleyball Federation since my parents and I joined the League, and it has been very impressive to see. It seems like every day, more great news is announced about the league, whether it’s the great players who continue to sign with the League, the outstanding coaches who are involved, or the new ownership groups and markets that are added. I am very proud to be a part of it, and I am now excited to say that my family is involved in the Columbus Fury ownership group.”

Neither Burrow nor his family have shared the reason why they will no longer be part of the ownership group.

It was not surprising to see Burrow participate in an off-the-field activity, as that has been something he has been passionate about throughout his career. He most recently competed in the Fanatics Flag Football Classic. After the event, Burrow expressed his interest in participating in the USA’s flag football team in the 2028 Olympics. Bengals head coach Zac Taylor was asked about Burrow’s potential participation. He said, “That sounds like a future Zac problem, so we’ll let future Zac handle that problem.”
