Sheffield United rocked by season-ending injury blow as Kalvin Phillips, Joe Rothwell updates issued before Swansea City clash

Sheffield United will be without striker Tyrese Campbell for the final seven games of the season after last season’s top scorer was ruled out for the remainder of the campaign. Campbell is understood to have suffered a knee issue and has undergone what boss Chris Wilder described as a “minor” operation.

The news brings to a premature end a largely underwhelming season for the forward, whose 10 regular-season goals last term helped propel United to the play-off final where he also found the net in defeat to Sunderland at Wembley.

His highlight of this term was a brace in November’s derby win over Wednesday at Hillsborough but he has scored just once since then, ending a 16-game goalless drought with a smart finish away at QPR.

It was hoped that that could prove the catalyst for a big finish to the season but that hasn’t materialised, with Wilder confirming ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Swansea City at Bramall Lane: “Yeah, he’s out for the season.

“Tyrese had a minor small op. We thought it was best that he got that cleared up and get him ready for a tough pre-season, and season 26/27.”

Kalvin Phillips is still “working his way back” after his own knee issue which has kept the Manchester City loanee out since the return Sheffield derby in February. “Hopefully we'll get him out and involved before the end of the season,” Wilder said.

Joe Rothwell is fit and will be involved against the Swans, Wilder indicated, while Femi Seriki is free to return after sitting out the Blades’ last game against Wrexham through suspension.
