Arsenal have faced a major setback during the international break. An injury picked up by Noni Madueke raises concern for the side as they head into a pivotal run of fixtures this April. This adds pressure to their already thin squad facing an injury crisis.
Noni Madueke picks up major injury at Wembley
As per reports, the incident occurred during England’s friendly match with Uruguay at Wembley. Noni Madueke started the match and showed early promise. He looked sharp early on and completed 92% of his passes.
Madueke moved into position to shoot, but Rodrigo Aguirre lunged in with a heavy tackle near the penalty area. The winger tried to continue but he soon collapsed to the pitch and had to come off. Tuchel replaced him with Jarrod Bowen in the 38th minute. He headed straight down the tunnel for treatment.
This issue creates a dual injury worry for the player. The winger had already been nursing a wrist injury. He was injured in training after an accidental clash with a youth player. He played through that issue during the Carabao Cup final while wearing a protective cast and significant strapping.
The friendly ended in a 1-1 draw. After the game, the England coach voiced deep worry. “I’m worried, of course. Very sad and upset and hopefully it’s not a big injury,” said Tuchel about Madueke. The player was later seen leaving Wembley wearing a protective brace on his left knee.
Major headache for Arsenal following Noni Madueke injury
The absence of Noni Madueke creates a huge selection headache for Mikel Arteta. The winger has become a vital part of the squad by offering quality depth on the right flank. His direct football playing style has led to seven goals and four assists since the start of 2026.
Meanwhile, Saka also withdrew from international duty with discomfort, raising concerns over his availability. This could’ve been the perfect time for Madueke to step up. But his absence now limits Arteta’s ability to manage fatigue across a tough run.
The timing of this injury is even more costly given the upcoming fixture list. Arsenal will face Southampton in an FA Cup quarter-final on April 5. And then a Champions League quarter-final in Lisbon would take place on April 8.
As per reports, the winger will likely miss the FA Cup clash. He also remains a major doubt for the first leg against Sporting CP. The next Premier League clash for the Gunners is on April 11th against Bournemouth. A longer recovery could rule him out of that match as well.
To manage this absence on the right flank, Mikel Arteta might trust 16-year-old Max Dowman. He might also tweak the attack by giving Gabriel Jesus or Martinelli wider roles.
Growing list of injured players at Arsenal
Noni Madueke’s issue adds to a growing injury list at London Colney. Several first-team players are already unavailable. Some have withdrawn from international duty while others remain sidelined.
Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes are both dealing with joint pain. Timber and Odegaard are also out. Eberechi Eze could miss up to a month with a calf injury. Mikel Merino remains a long-term absentee following foot surgery. Rice and Saka also returned early from England duty after experiencing discomfort.
However, there is some positive news on the condition of Noni Madueke. Initial scans suggest the damage is a minor issue rather than a serious ligament tear. Thomas Tuchel noted that the tests were slightly better than the feeling of the player. He predicted an absence of only some days.
If there are no setbacks, the medical team targets the Bournemouth clash on April 11 for his return. This gives Arsenal a small boost as they face their most important fixtures in years.
