Pep Guardiola won't make any decision on his Manchester City future until the end of the season, with the Catalan still considering calling it a day at the Etihad.

The former Barcelona boss has a contract until the end of next season, but noise continues over whether he may opt to leave his post 12 months early. If that is the case, then those in charge on the blue half of Manchester won't find out until the season is done.

The Telegraph report that Guardiola wants to analyse in May where City are under him, how he feels, and then decide on whether or not to do another 12 months in his role. But as things stand, the 55-year-old has genuinely not made up his mind regarding his future.

City have undergone a rebuild at the Etihad following their historic four-in-a-row run of titles. It has resulted in the likes of Marc Guehi, Antoine Semenyo and Rayan Cherki all moving to the club as Guardiola seeks to regenerate his squad.

The team remain in the Premier League title race, but do trail Arsenal by nine points with a game in hand. They are in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and have already claimed the Carabao Cup, which they achieved by beating rivals Arsenal at Wembley.

The FA Cup final is on May 16 and the Premier League season finishes on May 24. There remains the possibility of City completing a domestic treble, but they will need several things to go their way. It remains to be seen whether that incentivises Guardiola to remain or not.

The uncertainty means that City's hierarchy are having to consider what they do should Guardiola move on. They've had to compile a shortlist of possible replacements, which features former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, ex-Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso and former player Vincent Kompany, who's in charge at Bayern Munich.

Hugo Viana, City’s relatively new director of football, would be the man spearheading a search for a new manager but is also leading the club’s transfer strategy. Several of the club's targets would likely want reassurances over who their head coach would be before signing. City also have some of their stalwarts running out of contract, among them captain Bernardo Silva.

Guardiola is the longest-serving manager in the Premier League by some distance. The current City regime have rarely had to change the man in the dugout. Across their near two decade ownership they've only hired three managers - Roberto Mancini, Manuel Pellegrini and Guardiola.
