Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins is getting attention for what he said after joining the Las Vegas Raiders.
It’s official: On Thursday, April 2, former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins agreed to a contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, bringing his decade-plus years of experience to the franchise. Terms of the deal have yet to be released.
Thursday morning, Cousins’ agent, Mike McCartney, made the news official in a post on X. He congratulated him on signing to the franchise. While the terms of the team have yet to come out, Cousins’ deal likely won’t be as big as its last, but it will still be good. The player’s last contract was a four-year, $180 million contract with the Atlanta Falcons that he signed in 2024 with $100 million guaranteed and a $45 million average annual value, according to research from Spotrac.
“Cousins, 37, will join a Raiders team that is widely expected to select quarterback Fernando Mendoza with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft later this month,” ESPN stated in a Thursday, April 2 report on the signing. “The four-time Pro Bowler also will reunite with first-year Raiders coach Klint Kubiak, who worked with Cousins for three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.”
Cousins completed 61.7 percent of his passes for 1,721 yards with 10 touchdowns and five interceptions during the 2025-26, according to NFL research.
Former Minnesota Vikings Quarterback Kirk Cousins Announces New Home in Viral Post
Cousins also announced the news, and he did it in a dramatic, three-word post on X. Las Vegas Raiders followers will love what he says, too.
“The Autumn Wind….” was Cousins’ post, which is going viral with more than half a million views. That, of course, refers to the famed poem and musical anthem of the Las Vegas Raiders, bringing that pirate energy. It displays the Raiders as strong, fiery and a team to be feared and embodies the “silver and black” spirit.
Followers have been positive about the move on social media. “Congrats and it looks like a great opportunity to mentor a talented rookie QB. God is good,” one said. “Welcome to the Silver and Black,” another said.
“Congratulations,” another said, adding, “Welcome to the Nation. I have a good feeling that this is going to be one heck of a ride.” One more said, “Welcome to the only Nation, Raider Nation.”
NFL World Reacts to Kirk Cousins News
Even before this news officially broke, NFL experts an analysts were supportive of Cousins going to Las Vegas. In a feature back on March 16, John Breech of CBS Sports called it.
“Cousins would obviously prefer to go to a team where he might be able to start, but with those options drying up, the Raiders would make a lot of sense,” he said at the time. “For one, this would reunite him with Klint Kubiak. The Raiders new head coach spent three seasons (2019-21) in Minnesota with Cousins.”
He added, “Kubiak was Vikings’ QB coach for two years before being promoted to offensive coordinator, so he worked closely with Cousins in Minnesota.”
So, yes, Cousins and Kubiak previously worked together with the Minnesota Vikings from 2019 to 2021 when Cousins’ was the team’s starting quarterback and Kubiak was the quarterback coach and then then offensive coordinator. That brings them instant history together.
