Raiders still exploring quarterback options despite having No. 1 pick and likely taking Fernando Mendoza

The quarterback situation for the [Las Vegas Raiders](https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/las-vegas-raiders) will hopefully be figured out after a few years of not having anybody they love under center. With the expectation that Fernando Mendoza will be the guy for the Raiders now and in the future, it seems like they're in just as good a spot as any team in the NFL, if things go as planned.

However, when speaking about the quarterback room, general manager John Spytek’s comments made it seem like someone else could get a shot as well, including Aidan O'Connell.

“Aidan’s played a lot of good football in this league,” Spytek said, per the [team](https://www.raiders.com/news/john-spytek-faces-the-draft-that-matters-most-free-agency-2026-nfl-annual-meeting). “He’s started, he’s thrown for 300 yards in games. He’s a great teammate, works his tail off, and he’s smart.

“Obviously, he’s the only quarterback on the roster right now, and at a premium position, I think it’s a fair question to ask. We’re considering a bunch of different things right now, and I think we’ll have some answers here in the coming weeks.”

The bigger part here is that the Raiders simply don't have another quarterback on their roster, so for now, O'Connell has to be someone in their plans. Whether they want that to be the case or not, it's just the reality of what the Raiders are currently dealing with.

Mendoza will eventually be in Las Vegas, barring something drastic happening, and it will be very interesting to watch, hopefully.
