Armagh Star Has Brilliant Response To Manchester United Training Camp Mix-Up

Armagh’s championship preparations hit an unusual snag last weekend, but according to Oisín Conaty, it’s not something they’re going to dwell on.

Kieran McGeeney’s side had planned a training camp at Carton House ahead of their Ulster Championship opener against Tyrone, but were forced to cut the trip short after arriving to find the facilities not set up for Gaelic football.

Instead, the pitches had been lined out for soccer, with Manchester United due to arrive at the venue for their own training camp on April 6th.

It left Armagh improvising, opting to return home rather than continue with a disrupted schedule, a frustrating situation given the timing so close to their clash with Tyrone.

However, Oisín Conaty insisted the Armagh panel didn’t allow the setback to derail their preparations.

> Everything was the same, the meetings, the trainings, everything.

>

> We got two good sessions in and another walk-through session. It was perfect, all good.

The situation raised eyebrows, with reports suggesting a potential stand-off at the venue, but Oisín Conaty laughed off that idea.

> If United were there, I’m a Liverpool man, so there could have been a bit of a stand-off then.

>

> United need the results, don’t they? They need the training after the last few years they’ve been going through, so yeah, let them have it.

Despite the disruption, the Armagh focus remains firmly on what lies ahead.

The 2024 All-Ireland champions are targeting a first Ulster title since 2008, having suffered heartbreak in recent years with three final defeats, including two on penalties and another after extra time.

Oisín Conaty, who started all seven of Armagh’s league games and won man-of-the-match in that 2024 final against Galway, is expected to play a key role as they look to finally get over the line.

And if anything, the episode at Carton House may simply serve as a minor footnote in their preparations.
