Next stop Arsenal: Board decision decision means£100M star‘WILL BE ALLOWED TO LEAVE’

Newcastle United could be forced into a major summer decision over Arsenal target Sandro Tonali, with fresh reports suggesting the midfielder may be allowed to leave amid mounting financial and competitive pressures at St James’ Park, According to The Telegraph

Senior figures at Newcastle United have publicly acknowledged the possibility of high-value departures this summer as the club seeks to stabilise its financial position. Chief executive David Hopkinson confirmed that while there is no formal fire sale, the club would consider “significant” offers if they align with long-term sustainability.

Tonali has quickly emerged as one of the most discussed potential exits. Reports in England indicate the Italy international could be available under certain conditions, with a so-called “gentleman’s agreement” suggesting Newcastle would entertain bids if they fail to secure European football.

The 25-year-old, who joined from AC Milan in 2023, remains under a long-term contract, but his future appears increasingly tied to the club’s trajectory. With Newcastle currently outside the European places, interest from elite clubs has intensified, including long-standing links with Arsenal, as well as rivals across England and Europe.

Despite the speculation, the situation is far from straightforward. Newcastle have previously insisted Tonali is a key part of their project, and any deal would require a substantial fee—likely approaching £90–100 million—to be considered.

There is also conflicting reporting around *ARSENAL*’s stance. While earlier links positioned Tonali as a midfield target for Mikel Arteta, more recent claims suggest the Gunners may have cooled their interest due to financial priorities and squad balance.

Would Tonali suit Arsenal—and is he needed?

From a purely tactical perspective, Tonali would be an excellent stylistic fit for Arsenal. His blend of defensive awareness, tempo control, and progressive passing aligns naturally with Arteta’s structured midfield approach. He could operate alongside Declan Rice in a double pivot or slightly higher as a deep-lying playmaker, offering control in high-pressure matches.

However, the key question is necessity rather than quality. ARSENAL have already invested heavily in midfield, with Rice as the cornerstone and additional depth options available. Unless there is a major departure, Tonali risks becoming an expensive redundancy rather than a transformative addition.

Financially, the deal is also problematic. A fee near £100 million would demand immediate, elite-level impact—something Tonali, while excellent, does not guarantee in a league already saturated with top midfield talent.
