Chiefs Sign 24-Year-Old First Round Draft Pick In Shocking Move (Breaking News)

The Kansas City Chiefs have had a busy off-season over the last few months. Coming off their worst season with Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid, the team is determined to get back to Super Bowl contention. Something their fans have come to expect each and every year.

One of their biggest moves came when they signed Super Bowl MVP running back Kenneth Walker. They also traded Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams for four draft picks which included Los Angeles’ first round pick this season (29th overall).

However, on Thursday morning it was reported that they have added another big time playmaker.

Chiefs Sign Former First Round Draft Pick In Big-Time Move

Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network reported that Kansas City has signed former 23rd overall pick Kaiir Elam. The 24-year-old cornerback was the Buffalo Bills’ first round draft pick in 2022. Just last season he spent time with both the Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans. Prior to the start of the 2025 season Buffalo traded Elam to the Cowboys.

He would go on to appear in 10 games (7 starts) for Dallas before he was waived. For Tennessee he appeared in four games with zero starts.

This move comes after Kansas City traded away star CB Trent McDuffie, leaving a sizable hole at the position.

Kaiir Elam’s Career To Date

Elam spent three years with the Buffalo Bills but never quite lived up to his first round draft selection. In the those three seasons he recorded 12 career starts (29 game appearances), two interceptions, six pass deflections, 1 fumble recovery, 81 total tackles, and three tackles for loss.

It will be interesting to see Kansas City can turn around Elam’s career around and live up to what everyone thought he would be coming out of college.
