Smith returns as CanWNT announces FIFA Series roster

Olivia Smith is back in the Canada fold.

The Arsenal forward is one of three players returning to Casey Stoney’s CanWNT squad for this month’s 2026 FIFA Series in Brazil after missing February’s SheBelieves Cup due to injury. Canada is set to take on Zambia, South Korea and the hosts in group play. Action is set to begin on Apr. 11 with group play wrapping up on Apr. 18.

Also named in the 24-player squad are Manchester United’s Jayde Riviere and Arsenal goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo, both of whom were unavailable in the February international window.

“Being in Brazil, with the 2027 Women’s World Cup set to be played here, makes this an especially valuable window for us,” Stoney said in a statement. “It’s a chance to step out of our comfort zone, adapt to the conditions, and take important lessons as a team. This competition will test us in three very different ways against three distinct opponents, and we’re looking forward to seeing how we respond while continuing to build the team we want to be.”

While Canada has a lengthy history with both Brazil and South Korea, the competition’s opening match will be a first-ever meeting with Zambia. Canada is 11-10-11 against Brazil and 8-1-1 versus South Korea. The Brazil competition is one of four to take place this year with Cote d’Ivoire, Kenya and Thailand also playing host to matches.

Though Stoney will have all of Smith, D’Angelo and Riviere available for selection, a number of players won’t be making the trip. National Women’s Soccer League quartet Gabby Carle (Washington Spirit), Jordyn Huitema (Chicago Stars), Holly Ward (Seattle Reign) and Adriana Leon (San Diego Wave) miss out with injury. England-based duo Lysianne Proulx (Ipswich Town) and Shelina Zadorsky (West Ham) are also unavailable.
