Liverpool are reportedly keeping a close eye on developments surrounding Alessandro Bastoni, with fresh updates suggesting movement has already begun behind the scenes ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona have already made initial contact with Bastoni’s representatives, beginning early discussions over personal terms as they explore a potential deal.
Romano revealed that exchanges regarding contract details and salary expectations have already taken place between the Spanish club and the defender’s camp.
He explained that Barcelona’s interest in Bastoni is concrete rather than speculative, confirming that discussions are ongoing directly with the player’s representatives. However, he also clarified that formal negotiations between Barcelona and Bastoni’s current club, Inter Milan, have not yet started.
Romano said: “For sure, Barcelona want Bastoni. For sure, Barcelona are in contact with Bastoni’s camp. Exchanges on the contract, the salary, have already started.
“Barcelona, at this stage, don’t know how much Inter will ask for Alessandro Bastoni in the summer. A club-to-club negotiation has not started yet.
“Inter, at the moment, are not communicating any price – only that €50m won’t be enough to get Alessandro Bastoni.”

Hansi Flick is also a big admirer of the 26 y/o top defender, and personal terms are not expected to be an issue.

That detail leaves the situation open for other interested clubs, including Liverpool, to enter the race at a later stage. While Barcelona appear to have taken early steps toward a possible deal, uncertainty remains around the financial demands required to secure Bastoni’s signature.
Is Bastoni a realistic target for Liverpool this summer?
According to Romano, Inter have not yet communicated an official asking price for the Italian international, though it is understood that a fee of €50 million would not be sufficient to complete the transfer.
This suggests any potential move would require a substantial investment, particularly given Bastoni’s status as one of Europe’s most highly regarded centre-backs.
Liverpool’s interest in defensive reinforcements has been widely discussed in recent months, particularly as the club prepare for a period of transition within the squad. Ibrahima Konate may yet leave the club, and even if he doesn’t, the Reds need another centre-back.
Ibrahima Konate, what we’re hearing about his future:
?? No breakthrough in contract talks with Liverpool
?? Dressing room sources believe he will stay
?? Player wants a big increase on £150k-a-week deal
?? Lack of options after Real Madrid ended interest

A player of Bastoni’s profile would represent a significant addition if the Reds chose to pursue the opportunity.
For now, the situation remains at an exploratory stage, with Barcelona leading the early discussions but without a formal agreement in place.
However, as reported by Romano, the eventual involvement of other clubs could prove decisive once official negotiations with Inter begin.
With the summer window approaching, Bastoni’s future is shaping into one of the more closely watched defensive transfer situations, particularly if multiple European heavyweights decide to compete for his signature.
