M's change schedule to avoid overlap with Seahawks opener

The Seattle Mariners announced the start time of their home game against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at T-Mobile Park has been moved to 1:10 p.m. to avoid an overlap with the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks’ season opener on the same day at neighboring Lumen Field.

Why Luis Castillo is so important for Mariners this season

First pitch had been scheduled for 6:40 p.m. before the change.

Mariners president of business operations Kevin Martinez told Seattle Sports’ Wyman and Bob last Thursday the team was planning to move first pitch on Sept. 9 to the afternoon. The club was awaiting on approval from the city.

The Seahawks are scheduled for the first game of the NFL season on Sept. 9. Their opponent has yet to be determined.

The reigning Super Bowl champs typically kick off the NFL season on a Thursday night, which this year would have fallen on Sept. 10. However, this year’s season-opening NFL game was moved to a Wednesday due to the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers playing Thursday, Sept. 10, in Melbourne, Australia, in the league’s first-ever game Down Under.
