Record loss will not affect Chelsea transfer spending

Although Chelsea have just announced the biggest loss in Premier League history, it will not affect their transfer plans for this summer.

Whilst the club announced a record £262.4m loss for 2024–25, this does not tell the whole story.

Revenue is still very high, and will be even better in this financial year, because of their participation in this season’s Champions League. And the full monetary benefits from taking part in the Club World Cup last year, which they subsequently won, will also be reflected.

The club is also expected to continue their policy of selling players they have bought recently should also help to generate more funds.

Nevertheless, having exhausted tricks like selling their women’s team or hotels they owned to other group companies, they do need to be careful.

They are already face a suspended transfer ban for admitted breaches of the rules under the previous ownership, whilst UEFA, whose rules are stricter, has them under a multi-year financial settlement limiting spending.

Chelsea fans can still expect an influx of new players in the summer, but that also means some high profile departures are likely as well.
