“Stay as long as I can” – Chelsea star rules out leaving Stamford Bridge, clearly loves the club

Chelsea midfielder Moisés Caicedo

Chelsea star Moisés Caicedo says he hasn’t thought about leaving the Premier League side.

The Ecuador international joined the London club from Brighton & Hove Albion for well over €100m in August 2023.

Caicedo has been a regular for Chelsea despite playing under three permanent managers at Stamford Bridge.

He’s played 139 matches in all competitions for the Blues and 3,372 minutes are from 41 matches this season.

The defensive midfielder’s Premier League stats this season are as follows:

Interceptions: 2.0

Tackles: 2.9

Possession won (final third): 0.3

Ball recovered: 5.4

Clearances: 0.8

Blocked shots: 0.5

Duels won: 5.3

His role, especially with the national team, is that of the leader, both on and off the pitch. Last month, Ecuador manager Sebastián Beccacece explained the 24-year-old is a role model for young talents in his country.

Managerial changes at Chelsea

Friday’s edition of AS have published a detailed interview with Moisés Caicedo to discuss his growth, Chelsea, the future and the upcomingWorld Cup with Ecuador.

He arrived in Europe first when Brighton & Hove Albion signed him from Independiente del Valle in February 2021. Two years later, he secured a big money move to Chelsea.

On his journey so far, he said: “I’m very proud of myself for everything I’ve achieved. I still have a lot to do.

“Being at Chelsea now and at the World Cup with Ecuador is something special, both for my family and for me.

“The path forward involves continuing to work because I want to be even better.”

In January, the Club World Cup winners parted ways with Enzo Maresca and appointed Liam Rosenior as his successor. The South American insists it’s taking time for him and his teammates to this change.

“It’s a bit difficult because we were used to Maresca’s style,” Caicedo explained.

“The adaptation has taken us a little while, but in the end, it’s just a matter of time to get used to something new. Sometimes you adapt faster, and other times it takes a little longer. I think the whole team is going through a tough time. We have to keep going and try to get through the season because we have many great things to fight for.”

Chelsea man not thinking of Real Madrid

The Spanish newspaper asked Moisés Caicedo whether he can see himself at Real Madrid.

Responding to that, he added: “[Smiles] You never know in football, don’t you think? I have a contract with Chelsea now.

“The truth is, I haven’t thought about any other club or leaving London, but you never know. All I want is to enjoy myself. I have a contract and I want to keep playing as long as God allows. After that, we’ll see what happens and what surprises the future holds.”

AS insists his exit would be hard for the Premier League side.

“Yes, Chelsea are a great club. They’ve helped me a lot since I arrived. I want to repay them and stay there as long as I can,” Caicedo said.

Commitment encouraging for Blues

Moisés Caicedo has a contract until 2031, with an option for another year. This, coupled with his latest comments put the English club in a comfortable position to retain him for long.

The player’s value, as per Transermarkt, is €110m, the highest so far in his career.
