The latest Liverpool team news and injury updates ahead of their FA Cup quarter-final tie against Manchester City.

Liverpool’s chances of winning silverware this season will hinge on their results against Manchester City and PSG this week, with an FA Cup quarter-final match at the Etihad on Saturday swiftly followed by the first leg of their Champions League showdown in Paris – but Arne Slot’s preparations for these two crucial games have been hindered by injury worries.

Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak and Alisson Becker were among the key players who carried fitness problems into the March international break, while Jeremie Frimpong appears to have picked up a knock during the Netherlands’ match against Ecuador. In total, as many as eight first-team regulars could be unavailable over the coming week.

With kick-off in two massive matches rapidly approaching, we’ve collected all of the latest Liverpool injury news below along with the stricken players’ expected return dates when available.

Salah, Isak & Alisson updates ahead of Manchester City & PSG matches

While he may be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, winger Mohamed Salah remains a part of the first-team picture – but missed both the last domestic match against Brighton & Hove Albion and Egypt’s recent international matches due to an undisclosed muscular issue.

Slot, however, provided a positive update on Salah’s fitness as training resumed: “He recovers so fast. So, he will train with the team again tomorrow and if everything works well then he's available to be with us at City.”

Record signing Alexander Isak also returned to training on Thursday, more than three months after undergoing surgery on a broken leg and a related ankle injury. Slot told the club’s website that the Swedish striker was “in a good place” but he remains a doubt for the match against City with so little time to get back into the swing of full training. A place on the bench is a possibility, but the PSG match may be a more realistic target.

Unfortunately, first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker won’t be involved. Like Salah, he missed the Brighton match and later withdrew from his national squad after sustaining an unspecified injury. Slot has told the press that the Brazilian “will be out for a bit longer,” but no timeline has been offered and the precise nature of the problem remains unknown, making it unclear when he will return to take the gloves back from Giorgio Mamardashvili.

Frimpong & Chiesa among Liverpool doubts after international break

Summer signing Jeremie Frimpong was perhaps Liverpool’s highest-profile casualty of the international matches – the wing-back was forced to withdraw just 15 minutes after coming on as a half-time substitute for the Netherlands during their 1-1 friendly draw with Ecuador.

Frimpong underwent scans on Wednesday upon his return to the squad, although the results of that have not yet been made public. Slot has told the press that he was substituted during Tuesday’s game solely as a precaution, but Frimpong remans a doubt for the Manchester City and PSG matches at the time of writing.

Forward Federico Chiesa, meanwhile, returned early from international duty with Italy after being deemed unfit to play a part in his country’s unsuccessful bid to qualify for the World Cup. The issue is believed to have been related to overall match fitness after missing several recent games through illness rather than a specific injury, and Slot has told the media that the 28-year-old is a full participant in training and available to play this weekend.

Liverpool also have three players handling long-term injuries, none of whom are expected to play again this season: Wataru Endo (ankle), who is hoping to be available for Japan’s World Cup squad after undergoing successful surgery; Conor Bradley (knee), who is expected back some time over the winter; and youngster Giovanni Leoni (ACL), who should return in time for the start of the 2026/27 season.
