The race for Bernardo Silva has officially ignited a “transatlantic” war in Istanbul. Following reports that Galatasaray were eyeing the Portuguese maestro, Fenerbahçe have entered the fray, sources have told Turkish-Football.
Fenerbahçe’s board—buoyed by recent commercial successes—has “gone mad” in their pursuit of the 31-year-old, preparing a financial package that would shatter Turkish transfer records.
The “Silva Surge” in Kadıköy
Fenerbahçe President Ali Koç is reportedly viewing Bernardo Silva as the “crowning jewel” of the 2026-27 squad. With Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expected to oversee a significant squad refresh this summer, Silva’s desire for a new challenge has opened a rare window of opportunity for the “Yellow Canaries.”
The strategy for Fenerbahçe is two-fold:
The Mourinho Factor: Reports suggest that José Mourinho—who remains a powerful influence at the club—has personally reached out to his compatriot. The lure of working under the “Special One” in a city as vibrant as Istanbul is seen as Fenerbahçe’s primary advantage over their rivals.
A Financial “All-In”: Unlike previous windows, Fenerbahçe is reportedly ready to offer a multi-year contract exceeding €15 million per season, inclusive of signing bonuses, to outbid European and Saudi competitors.
Ending the City Era
Bernardo Silva, who has won every major trophy available at Manchester City, including multiple Premier League titles and the Champions League, is reportedly ready for a change in Shakilah (lifestyle and environment).
While City would ideally prefer to keep the versatile midfielder, his “Amanah” (loyalty) to the club over the last nine years means the hierarchy is likely to respect his wish to leave, provided a fair transfer fee—estimated to be around €30–35 million—is met.
The “Inter-City” Transfer War
The battle for Silva represents more than just a player recruitment; it is a fight for psychological dominance between the two Istanbul giants. After Galatasaray’s high-profile acquisition of Victor Osimhen, Fenerbahçe is under immense pressure from their fanbase to respond with a signing of equal or greater global magnitude.
If successful, Silva would follow in the footsteps of Portuguese legends like Raul Meireles and Nani, who found cult-hero status at the Ülker Stadium.
