Colossal €60m gap on Chelsea transfer – Serious negotiations will be needed

Enzo Fernandez

London, United Kingdom – 09 30 2025: Enzo Fernandez seen during Champions League league phase game between Chelsea FC and SL Benfica

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández continues to be linked with a transfer to Real Madrid, and the noise around a potential move is not going away.

If anything, it is starting to take a more defined shape. That comes just days after the Argentine reinforced he would “really like” to live in Madrid, comments which raised eyebrows given the growing interest from the Spanish side.

Now, fresh claims from Spain suggest there may already have been movement behind the scenes.

Claims of approach and price gap

During the same discussion in Spanish radio Marca, a panel of journalists provided further detail on the situation – and some strong claims were made about Enzo Fernández’s position.

Miguel Serrano stated: “Enzo offered himself in the last week of February. The second time was right after Chelsea’s elimination against PSG.”

That suggestion points towardsthe player being open to a move, although there is no indication of formal negotiations progressing.

However, the biggest obstacle to the Chelsea transfer appears to be financial.

“The problem is that Real Madrid cannot complete the signing because Chelsea won’t sell him for less than €150m-€160m (£128m-£137m),” Serrano added.

That valuation is in line with Chelsea’s long-standing stance on the midfielder, who remains a key figure at Stamford Bridge.

“Perfect signing” for Real Madrid

Despite the price, there is clear admiration from within Spanish circles. Javier Tintó did not hesitate when assessing Enzo Fernández’s profile.

“He would be the perfect signing,” he said, when discussing options to replace Toni Kroos in midfield.

Tintó went further, suggesting that Fernández is currently the preferred option ahead of others.

“Of the three players who could replace Kroos, Zubimendi is out, Vitinha and Enzo remain. And Enzo is the favourite because he has the perfect qualities for that role.”

The view is shared more broadly. Nacho Labarga added: “Real Madrid cannot afford more time without an organiser in midfield… Enzo is a very proven player, a World Cup winner.”

Chelsea transfer stance and key condition

While admiration is clear, Real Madrid are not expected to meet Chelsea’s current demands.

From the same discussion, it is suggested the Spanish side would only move under specific conditions. Madrid are reportedly unwilling to go above €100m (£85m), a figure significantly below Chelsea’s valuation.

There is also a belief that the situation could change depending on how the season ends.

If Chelsea fail to qualify for the Champions League and Fernández pushes for a transfer, Madrid expect the price could drop below that €100m (£85m) mark.

What happens next?

For now, the gap between both clubs remains considerable. Chelsea are under no pressure to sell, and Fernández has recently spoken about finally settling in England after a difficult first 18 months.

At the same time, his comments about Madrid – combined with claims he has already been offered – will only keep the story alive.

The situation may ultimately come down to two factors: Chelsea’s season outcome and whether Fernández actively pushes for a transfer.

Until then, Real Madrid interest is clear. But a deal still looks some distance away.
