Levi Colwill return date given after returning to full Chelsea training

Liam Rosenior has provided a major boost to the Chelsea faithful by confirming that Levi Colwill has finally returned to full team training, though the head coach admits he won’t return yet.

Levi Colwill is finally on the verge of a long-awaited return to the Chelsea squad after missing the entirety of the 2025–26 season. The 23-year-old defender suffered a devastating ACL injury during the very first week of pre-season, an absence that has left a significant void in Liam Rosenior’s backline.

One of the main things Chelsea have missed about Colwill is his leadership, despite still being young.

Reece James has improved massively with his leadership of the squad, but the issue stems at centre-back where a young batch of players have struggled in key moments of games.

Remember: Enzo Fernandez will not be available…

Levi Colwill will return for Chelsea in a few weeks

Liam Rosenior gave Chelsea fans something to smile about after revealing that Levi Colwill has returned to full training at Cobham, but that doesn’t mean he’ll be playing straight away.

“It’s really good to have Levi back in full training but it’s going to take a few more weeks. He needs to tick those boxes but we’ve got a pretty fresh group.”

It seems as if Colwill will miss games against Port Vale, Manchester United and Manchester City, but could return to face Brighton in three weeks time.

Let’s hope that Chelsea are still in the top-five race by then, as building on the four-game losing streak may just cost the Blues a place in the Champions League.

The centre-back duo Chelsea need to call upon

There’s no doubting that Colwill and Trevoh Chalobah have to be the Chelsea centre-back combination once both players are back fit and raring to go.

Colwill and Chalobah partnered each other the whole way through the FIFA Club World Cup in the summer, winning three out of the four games.

His elite ball-playing ability has been missing from a Liam Rosenior system that relies on building from the back. Mamadou Sarr and Wesley Fofana have both made mistakes this season.

Quite often it’s Chalobah that’s left to his own devices.
