The NFL has officially turned its attention to the 2026 NFL Draft. With the combine and pro days complete, teams are now finalizing their draft boards for the annual spectacle.
Throughout the process, teams meet with prospects, evaluate their personalities, and test their abilities through a variety of drills. Some organizations, however, take a more hands-on approach.

Rather than simply observing or running drills, why not get directly involved in the action? New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel has continued his unique trend of embracing the physical nature of the sport.
His approach may fly under the radar, but Vrabel’s willingness to physically challenge prospects remains rare. FOX10 Phoenix captured this year’s example at Arizona State’s Pro Day.

Vrabel went hands-on with ASU offensive tackle Max Iheanachor, working through techniques and gaining as close a look as possible at the prospect’s ability.

This isn’t new for Vrabel. He has taken a similar approach in past evaluations and even during team practices. It not only gives him a chance to coach the next generation of talent, but also allows him to relive aspects of his playing days.

Vrabel built a standout career with the New England Patriots after beginning with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He won multiple Super Bowls and showcased remarkable versatility.
Though primarily an outside linebacker, Vrabel also contributed on offense. Along with recording 57 career sacks, he caught 10 touchdowns on just 10 receptions.
