Nahshon Wright was arguably the best story on the Chicago Bears defense in 2025.

A journeyman corner who had one interception and three career starts through four NFL seasons, Wright finsihed with five picks, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles in his first year with Chicago, earning his first-ever Pro Bowl nod and NFC Defensive Player of the Month for November.

But Wright left in free agency, inking a one-year, $5.5 million deal with the New York Jets this March, and the Bears could add a young corner in the upcoming draft to replace him.

When looking at how Chicago’s current needs lined up with players in the draft, Windy City Gridiron’s Aaron Leming noted that Washington’s Tacario Davis, a big 6-foot-4 press corner who has “received comps to Nahshon Wright.”

Washington CB Tacario Davis Named Potential Nahshon Wright Replacement for Chicago Bears in 2026 NFL Draft

GettyTacario Davis could be a draft target for the Chicago Bears.

Davis played four college seasons across two programs, spending 2022 through 2024 at Arizona before transferring to Washington in 2025. He appeared in 42 career games.

His breakout came as a sophomore in 2023, when he started 11 of 13 games and led the Pac-12 with 15 pass breakups and 16 passes defended while adding 25 tackles and an interception. That earned him second-team All-Pac-12 from the AP.

In 2024, Arizona’s first season in the Big 12, Davis started 11 of 12 games and put up 44 tackles and six pass deflections. He landed on the Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist list, and was named second-team All-Big 12.

At Washington in 2025, injuries limited him to seven of 13 games, but he still earned honorable mention All-Big Ten while recording two interceptions, four pass breakups and 22 tackles.

At the NFL Combine, Davis ran a 4.41-second 40-yard dash and posted a 9.76 Relative Athletic Score (RAS), which are impressive numbers considering his size.

Wright is listed at 6-foot-4, 199 pounds and ran a 4.46 at his Pro Day, so the two are fairly similar physically.

A Look at Chicago’s Current Depth at CB

The Bears’ top corner, Jaylon Johnson, is signed through 2027 and is still only 27, but a pair of groin injuries limited him to seven regular season games in 2025 before he returned for the stretch run and both of Chicago’s playoff games.

When healthy, he is a two-time Pro Bowler who can lock down opposing WR1s. But when he’s hurt, well — the Bears burned through seven different starting cornerbacks last season trying to compensate.

Kyler Gordon is under contract through 2028 after signing his extension, but he played just three regular season games in 2025 due to two separate stints on injured reserve. He is one of the better slot corners in football when available — but he has missed 23 games over four seasons.

Tyrique Stevenson will be in the final year of his deal in 2026 and will likely start opposite Johnson. There’s also Terell Smith, who missed the entire 2025 season with a torn patellar tendon suffered in the preseason, and Zah Frazier, a 2025 draft pick who spent his entire rookie year on the non-football injury list for undisclosed reasons and has yet to take a regular-season snap.

Jaylon Jones was re-signed on a one-year deal this March — he appeared in 15 games last season but logged just one defensive start and is primarily a special teams contributor. Josh Blackwell is also back, but he played three defensive snaps all year.

It’ll be interesting to see if the Bears look to add to the group in the draft. Leming thinks it’s certainly possible. “Although corner falls into a future need, this is a sneaky position that I believe the Bears could be in higher in the draft than most expect,” he noted. “While it would still be mildly surprising to see them use a first-round pick here, don’t be surprised to see them consider a Day 2 or early Day 3 selection at this spot.”

That’s where Davis will likely fall, so keep an eye on him in the later rounds.
