2026 World Cup Qualifiers, Sweden, Bosnia, Turkey, Czech Republic, Kongo and Iraq are through

Victor Gyokeres scored the special goal to take Sweden through to the World Cup against all odds. They got this second chance to get through via their earlier Nations League success. The first team ever to qualify for the World Cup via UEFA Nations League.

Gyokeres showed his goalscoring qualities as he secured the winner at Strawberry Arena in this special qualifier campaign. Sweden changed manager during the World Cup qualifier campaign. Jon Dahl Tomasson was replaced with Graham Potter.

Sweden vs. Poland

Bosnia had a major challenge playing Italy. Italy was early on reduced to 10 men. After a 1-1 draw across regulation and extra time, the shootout swung toward the hosts. Bosnia stayed composed from the spot to move on from the playoff. Italy’s run ended despite a stubborn defensive effort that lasted all evening.

Beyond the drama, this was a game defined by territory and pressure. Bosnia and Herzegovina earned that edge with volume and field position, then finished the job from 12 yards.

A dramatic battle between Czechia and Denmark ended in a 2-2 draw. Czechia took an early lead after just 3 minutes. Later Denmark scored in the 72nd. Czechia never gave up and again back in the lead in stoppage time. Denmark forward Kasper Høgh scored in 111th minute as the game went into a penalty shoot out. Czechia players in the penalty shoot out made their mark and were the strongest on the day.

Czechia are in the World Cup finals for the first time in two decades. They will face South Korea, South Africa and Mexico. To be the only European team in this group could see them as a favourite to win the group.

In the last of the European battles to get into the World Cup finals, Turkey were up against Kosovo. Kerem Akturkoglu scored the only goal of the game in the 53rd minute. The Fenerbahce flank man became the hero as Turkey are through. They will play USA, Paraguay and Australia. That would see them as a favourite in this group.

A goal from Burnley defender Axel Tuanzebe scored the goal that send Kongo into the World Cup. Jamaica faced defeat as their World Cup dream on their own continent was shattered. This happened because of a special goal in the 100th minute.

DR Congo will play Portugal, Columbia and Usbekistan in their group. They will be in the World Cup with ten other nations from their continent Africa. Ghana, South Africa, Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Cote d’Ivoire and Cape Verde are the other nations.

DR Congo vs. Jamaica

The last game in this qualification play-off’s was the one between Irak and Boliva. The game took place in Mexico and it all ended 2-1 to Irak. This settled the final which will be played among a record number of nations with the total 48. Ipswich attacker Ali Al-Hamadi, currently on loan at Luton, opened the scoring for Irak. Moises Paniagua equalized in the 38th minute. The final goal scored by Ayman Hussein. The 33 year old playing in for Iraq club Al-Karma made his 93rd apperances, scoring his 33rd goal.

Irak will be in group with Norway, Senegal and France. This is a very challenging group and Iraq looks one massive outsider among those nations.
