NFL clears Chiefs WR Rashee Rice, closes abuse investigation without discipline

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The NFL closed an investigation into Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice. The league opened the investigation after Rice’s former girlfriend said he abused her.

The abuse claims were detailed in a [civil lawsuit](https://www.kctv5.com/2026/02/18/civil-lawsuit-accuses-chiefs-wr-rashee-rice-pattern-repeated-assault/) filed in Dallas County, Texas, in February.

Court documents filed in district court by Dacoda Nichole Jones accuse Rice of physical assault at their homes in Victory Park, Texas, and Lee’s Summit, Missouri, “over the course of many months.”

The lawsuit accuses Rice of assault from December 2023 through July 2025, and specifically notes incidents on Feb. 16, 2024; Aug. 23, 2024; and Oct. 24, 2024; “causing severe and permanent injuries to (Jones).”

Jones’ civil lawsuit alleges that the former couple lived together when Rice strangled Jones at their Texas home in December 2023.

According to a statement from the NFL, “There was insufficient evidence to support a finding that he violated the personal conduct policy.”

The NFL issued the statement to KCTV5 on April 3.

[ESPN’s Adam Shefter](https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/2040170010627227717/photo/1) also shared a statement from Rice’s attorney, Sean Lindsey, that said “Mr. Rice wants to thank the NFL for their thorough investigation, and looks forward to the start of the 2026-27 NFL season.”

Rice was suspended by the NFL for six games in 2025 for a previous felony conviction.
