**William Gallas thinks Man City defender John Stones should be a transfer target for his former club, Chelsea.**
The 31-year-old is expected to leave the Etihad Stadium on a free transfer when his [**contract**](https://mancitynews.com/man-city-transfer-news-rodri-3/) expires this summer, and Gallas says Stones could find a home down in the capital:
“What does John Stones bring to Chelsea? Leadership experience and composure. He is calm. He can bring you everything.”
“He looks like he can be the right guy to be the leader of the defence line at centre-back. I think Stones can be a good idea.”
Is there a chance that Stones will sign a new deal?
---------------------------------------------------
Speaking about Stones’ situation back in October, manager Pep Guardiola seemed to hint that the centre-back’s time with City could well come to an end after ten years.
The centre-half has been plagued by injury problems over the past two campaigns, and Guardiola says that will play a major role in deciding whether he stays with the club beyond the end of June:
“I think what’s happened in the last two seasons will define the decision at the end of the season. He’s been injured many times, so that is why we have to wait and see.”
Would Chelsea consider recruiting the Man City star?
----------------------------------------------------
Many would assume that, as the Blues usually buy players who are 25 years or younger, they wouldn’t be interested in Stones anyway.
However, they are not thought to be against signing older players if they are out of contract. They were believed to be keen on Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk before he put pen to paper on a new deal with the Reds in April last year.
That means Stones could well be on their radar. Of course, City fans would prefer that he move to a team in another country, but the choice will be his if he does become a free agent.
