£100M midfielder‘will leave on our terms’–Chelsea informed

Newcastle United CEO David Hopkinson has moved to address intensifying speculation over Sandro Tonali’s future, insisting that any potential departure of key players will be dictated strictly on the club’s terms amid growing interest from Chelsea

The Italian midfielder has emerged as a target for several elite clubs, including Manchester United, Arsenal and CHELSEA, as uncertainty builds around Newcastle’s summer strategy. Reports suggest the Magpies could be forced into difficult decisions if they fail to secure European qualification.

Hopkinson, however, has made it clear that Newcastle will not be pressured into selling. Speaking about the club’s broader transfer model, he stressed a disciplined, value-driven approach, indicating that while sales are possible, they will only occur when it suits Newcastle’s long-term interests

Newcastle United CEO Hopkinson said: “We haven’t got an overall strategy with regard to players out, necessarily. We think through what players might or might not want to do this summer. But if an Isak-like scenario presents itself again, any player under contract is going to leave on our terms and we’re going to maximise the opportunity that might represent for the club.

“Going forward, our strategy is to buy well and sell well. Buying well does not necessarily mean spending the most money. It means working in the marketplace for the players that generate the most value for this club rather than the fee paid for them.

‘So there are a multitude of things we need to employ, including developing our own, looking for opportunities in the marketplace and making sure we are maximising our opportunity within the available price we can produce.”

Crucially, there is no strong indication that Tonali himself is actively pushing for a move. Instead, much of the speculation appears driven by external interest and Newcastle’s broader financial context, including pressure to comply with spending regulations and maintain competitive balance.
