The FA Cup returns this weekend at the quarterfinal stage and a blockbuster clash between Manchester City and Liverpool gets the ball rolling.
[Liverpool](https://www.si.com/soccer/liverpool) make the journey to the Etihad Stadium for their first outing after the international break, boasting fond memories of their most recent FA Cup clash with Saturday’s opponents. The 3–2 victory in the semifinal of the 2021–22 season saw them progress to the showpiece event, where they eventually beat Chelsea.
[City](https://www.si.com/soccer/manchester-city) have been to the FA Cup final in every subsequent season, kicking off with victory in 2022–23 but then losing back-to-back finals. Last term’s defeat to Crystal Palace needs avenging this time around, although City’s Carabao Cup final victory over Arsenal just before the international period has helped them on the road to redemption.
With neither side at their swashbuckling best this term, it’s difficult to predict exactly what kind of encounter we’ll witness on Saturday. One thing is all but certain, however, and that’s drama.
