Manchester City host Liverpool FC in the FA Cup quarter-final on Saturday.

Manchester City will have a different manager on the touchline when they host Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-final on Saturday lunchtime.

The Blues head into the match on a high after they defeated Arsenal in the League Cup final last month and are aiming to reach the semi-final of the competition for the eighth successive season. Liverpool have not made it to the last four since winning the competition for the eighth time in 2022.

City have made just one change to their starting line up from the Arsenal win, with Marc Guehi selected in central defence in place of Nathan Ake. It means that James Trafford retains his place in goal, with Wembley hero Nico O’Reilly selected in a left-back role once again. Liverpool have made three changes from their defeat to Brighton, with Mohamed Salah selected in attack.

Why Pep Guardiola is not Man City manager vs Liverpool

There will also be another Man City change against Liverpool today, with Pep Guardiola not on the touchline.

The 55-year-old was handed a two-game touchline ban after he received his sixth yellow card of the season during the 3-1 victory over Newcastle in the fifth round last month. Guardiola was booked after his protests towards referee Sam Barrott following Kieran Trippier’s challenge on City star Jeremy Doku. He has already missed the recent draw with West Ham in the Premier League, but the ban did not apply to the League Cup final against Arsenal last month.

Guardiola previously served a one-match domestic ban for three yellow cards when City thumped Exeter 10-1 in the FA Cup third round at the start of the year. He has been handed a two-match domestic ban because it is his second of the season and the punishment is doubled.

It means that City assistant Pep Lijnders, who spent six years as assistant to Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, will take charge of the Blues against his former club. Guardiola will be back on the touchline when City travel to face Chelsea in the Premier League fixture next weekend.
