Packers connected to Commanders free agent with 8 career Pro Bowl selections

The Green Bay Packers made a significant subtraction from their edge rushers room this offseason and have yet to bring in a replacement.

That edge rusher was Rashan Gary, who the Packers traded to the Dallas Cowboys last month.

While Gary disappeared in the second half of last season, there's no denying the Packers still need to replace his 7.5 sacks.

Making matters even worse for the Packers, they may not have superstar linebacker Micah Parsons for as many as four games as he recovers from a torn ACL suffered late last season.

In an effort to do that, CBS Sports' Garrett Podell suggests that the Packers sign eight-time Pro Bowler and former Washington Commanders edge rusher Von Miller, who he believes is best suited for Green Bay.

Here's what Podell said about a Miller-Packers connection:

Miller makes plenty of sense on the Packers, given Micah Parsons' situation. Parsons is recovering from a torn ACL. Miller would be an ideal addition to hold down the fort at the edge rusher spot opposite former first-round pick Lukas Van Ness until Parsons gets back. Once he does, Miller could be a situational pass rusher for the Packers, a team whose +1500 odds to win the Super Bowl are the seventh-best in the NFL, according to DraftKings Sportsbook. Even though Green Bay is known as a team that can be free agent-averse, general manager Brian Gutekunst signed veteran defensive tackle Javon Hargrave to hold down the fort until Devonte Wyatt can return from his injury. Miller would be a similar signing.

Signing a 37-year-old edge rusher might not seem like a great idea on the surface, but it doesn't seem like a bad idea when you consider what Miller did in 2025.

Despite playing just 37% of the snaps, Miller posted nine sacks and 36 pressures, according to Pro Football Focus.

Miller also managed to stay healthy, appearing in every game for Washington.

To help keep him fresh at his advanced age, the Packers can deploy Miller in obvious passing situations.

Ideally, the Packers address their need along the edge with a draft pick and a veteran signing in free agency.

Miller would definitely check the latter box.
