Liverpool saw their hopes of FA Cup glory ended with a disappointing defeat at moneybags Manchester City on Saturday afternoon. Erling Haaland scored twice shortly before half-time - the first a penalty - then added a third as Antoine Semenyo also netted as the Reds slumped to a forgettable 4-0 reverse to slip out at the quarter-final stage.

The result means Arne Slot's side have must now concentrate on attempting to win the Champions League and also securing a top-five Premier League berth to earn qualification for next season's competition.

The ECHO was in attendance at the Etihad and here we run the rule over the performance of the Liverpool players.

Giorgi Mamardashvili 6

Safe handling in the air, solid with his feet and held on to a couple of strong shots and had no chance with any of the goals.

Joe Gomez 6

Had the beating of Doku in the physical battle first half and didn’t allow himself to be exposed for pace. Subbed.

Ibrahima Konate 5

Careless in possession on occasion and bounced away by Haaland at one point and beaten by striker for second and lost O'Reilly for the fourth. Booked.

Virgil van Dijk 5

One good clearance before break and looked to orchestrate Liverpool’s play out of the back but needless foul for penalty and wrong decision to play offside for third.

Milos Kerkez 6

Good challenge on Cherki in opening quarter and offered himself going forward regularly. Booked.

Ryan Gravenberch 5

Decent in opening quarter when moving the ball forward but could have protected back four better and way off it second half, although unlucky in build-up to penalty. Booked and subbed.

Curtis Jones 6

Playing in the double pivot, ability to hold on to ball useful at times but should have cleared down the line ahead of the second.

Mohamed Salah 5

Denied by good Khusanov touch when found by long Mamarashvili punt first half, drew good save from Trafford after break but missed one opening and then failed from spot. Not his day. Subbed.

Dominik Szoboszlai 5

Nowhere near as influential as of late and difficult to remember much impact from the number 10 position.

Florian Wirtz 6

Looked dangerous first half whenever in possession and found good positions when drifting across the front line, but disappeared after half-time. Subbed.

Hugo Ekitike 6

Led the line well with good physical presence but could have done better with first-half shot over. Among those to struggle second half but did win penalty. Subbed.

Jeremie Frimpong (for Gomez 62) 6

Some decent minutes at right-back.

Alexis Mac Allister (for Gravenberch 67) 6

Had a shot beaten out by Trafford.

Rio Ngumoha (for Wirtz 67) 6

A couple of decent runs down the right.

Cody Gakpo (for Ekitike 67) 5

Not much involvement of note on the left.

Federico Chiesa (for Salah 77)

Minutes.
