Manchester United and Belgium star Senne Lammens has explained why he thinks both he and Real Madrid shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois are the “same” kind of “character.”
Senne Lammens has talked up Thibaut Courtois in the past and highlighted the major influence that his Belgium teammate has had on him as an emerging player.
The 23-year-old Belgian shot-stopper played in one of the two March international matches for Belgium amid Courtois’ absence from playing for the national team.
Courtois was unable to represent Belgium after the 33-year-old suffered a muscle injury following the Champions League tie against Manchester City last month.

Man Utd and Belgium player Senne Lammens thinks Thibaut Courtois would agree with his analysis of the two of them
Senne Lammens, who climbed into the national team’s senior squad in 2025, played the full 90 minutes of Belgium’s 5-2 thumping of the United States last month.
The Manchester United No 1 was subsequently an unused substitute in Belgium’s 1-1 draw with Mexico in the international friendly at Soldier Field in Chicago.

Lammens said that Thibaut Courtois was with the Belgium national team during the March break, despite the Real Madrid star being unable to play due to an injury.
The Belgium star added that he feels both Courtois and he are on the same wavelength when it comes to not seeking out validation for their performances.
“I saw [Courtois] in the beginning of the week,” Lammens told The Athletic.
“He was there with our team. He knows we are both a bit the same character, in that we do not need the most praise or the most reassurance, but I think he believes in me as well.”

Man Utd No 1 Senne Lammens’ admiration from Belgium teammate Thibaut Courtois speaks volumes
Despite challenging Courtois for the No 1 role for Belgium, Lammens is convinced that the former Chelsea star is still well clear of the competition between the sticks.
“He’s still, to be honest, the best goalkeeper in the world,” he added.
“So, he’ll come back to that level. I wanted to be there for my team today and maybe in the future, when I’m needed. I showed today that you can count on me.”
Lammens has been capped two times for Belgium since his senior international debut in the 7-0 thumping of Liechtenstein in his country’s 2025 World Cup qualifier.
