Chiefs' wide receiver Rashee Rice could still face punishment for his involvement in a street racing incident
The Kansas City Chiefs have spent the early portion of the offseason looking for a way to add more weapons to their offense for quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Of course, it is worth noting that, if both Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy can stay on the field, the Chiefs will likely be much improved on this side of the ball in 2026.
Rice has dealt with a slew of injuries and legal issues over the past couple of years, which have limited his ability to play for Kansas City. On Friday, the NFL announced that Rice wouldn’t face any discipline over abuse allegations made by his former girlfriend, Dacoda Jones. However, the star wide receiver could still find himself in trouble for his involvement in a 2024 street racing incident.
Rashee Rice Street Racing Case Gets Update
Rice was selected in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, and he enjoyed a solid rookie campaign, catching 79 passes for 938 yards and seven touchdowns, helping the Chiefs win Super Bowl LVIII. In 2024, Rice appeared set for a breakout campaign, as he racked up 24 receptions for 288 yards and two touchdowns through three games before he suffered a torn ACL in Week 4, with the injury ending his season prematurely.
Injuries and a six-game suspension due to his involvement in a street racing incident limited Rice to just eight games last year, but when he was on the field, he re-established himself as Mahomes’ top target in the passing game (53 REC, 571 YDS, 5 TD). The problem is that the off-field issues keep piling up for Rice at an alarming rate.
While he got off the hook when it comes to his aforementioned abuse allegations, Rice’s street racing situation could still come back to bite him. He has already faced discipline from the NFL for his involvement in this incident, but he could still be forced to pay several of the victims who were injured as a result of his reckless driving.
“A lawsuit against Rice arising from the March 2024 street racing incident is due to go to trial on June 9,” Florio wrote. “The driver of the other car, Theodore Knox, recently had a default judgment in excess of $2.8 million entered against him … Unlike Knox, Rice makes NFL money. Rice is eligible for a second contract. He becomes an obvious target for compensation as to the injuries suffered in the crash sparked by Rice and Knox racing on a Dallas highway.”
Chiefs Hoping Rashee Rice Can Stay on the Field in 2026

When Rice has been on the field to begin his career in the NFL, he has appeared to be on his way to becoming one of the top wide receivers in the league. If he can simply suit up for the Chiefs in 2026, he should immediately elevate the level of the team’s offense, as he already has developed a strong rapport with Mahomes under center.
Assuming Rice can put his off-field issues in the past, the 2026 campaign is shaping up to be a big one for him. He’s due to earn a significant pay raise in the near future, and if he can put together a complete campaign, he could become very wealthy in the blink of an eye. This trial will be worth keeping tabs on, but once it gets taken care of, Rice’s full focus will be on the upcoming season.
