Chiefs Predicted to Land ‘Massive’ OL in Draft Day Trade with Cowboys

Kadyn Proctor would be a great addition for the Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs went 6-11 in 2025, their worst season ever under Andy Reid.

It was an extremely rough year, as they lost Patrick Mahomes to a torn ACL in Week 15, and also saw their offensive line gutted by injuries. Left tackle Josh Simmons missed nine games, right guard Trey Smith missed five, and former right tackle Jawaan Taylor missed four. Mahomes was sacked 34 times in 15 games before his season ended.

With O-line a concern heading into the 2026 draft, many analysts think Kansas City is going to address that need early. NFL.com’s Chad Reuter’s April 3 mock draft projects the Chiefs trading up with the Dallas Cowboys to select former Alabama offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor.

The Cowboys currently hold the No. 12 and No. 20 overall picks after acquiring Green Bay’s first-rounder in the Micah Parsons trade. Dallas is expected to prioritize the defensive side of the ball. That could leave the door open for a trade, with the Chiefs packaging their No. 29 pick and additional capital to move into one of Dallas’ first-round slots and grab Proctor before another team does.

Draft Day Trade Proposal Between Chiefs & Cowboys Brings OL Kadyn Proctor to Kansas City

The Chiefs released Taylor this offseason, saving $20 million in cap space but leaving a vacancy at RT. Jaylon Moore is slated to fill that role, but the depth behind him is thin.

In Reuter’s draft day trade proposal, the Chiefs would “give Dallas a third-rounder and swap fifth-round picks to move up nine spots and in front of a few teams potentially interested in Proctor.”

NFL.com draft expert Lance Zierlein thinks Proctor “has the potential to become a good right tackle or very good guard,” so a position change could very well be coming regardless of where Proctor lands.

Reuter thinks Proctor’s “massive build is similar to other linemen the team has acquired over the past few years, and it’s unclear whether Jaylon Moore is equipped to take over Jawaan Taylor’s starting right tackle spot.” Those are fair points.

A Look Back at Proctor’s College Experience

The 6-foot-7, 352-pound OL had a rocky true freshman season in 2023, which included a brief transfer to Iowa following Nick Saban’s retirement before returning to Tuscaloosa, but Proctor eventually blossomed into one of the SEC’s most dominant blockers.

Proctor broke out as a junior, earning consensus All-American honors and First-Team All-SEC recognition while co-winning the Jacobs Blocking Trophy as the conference’s top blocker. He allowed just two sacks over 527 pass-blocking snaps, per Pro Football Focus.

With the Chiefs signing running back Kenneth Walker to a three-year, $43 million deal this offseason, Proctor’s elite run-blocking skills would be put to good use.

His technique needs polish — Zierlein flagged his inconsistent footwork and occasional leverage issues — but Proctor’s physical tools are rare. And Kansas City, with its track record of offensive line development, is exactly the type of organization equipped to maximize those traits.

Proctor will have no shortage of suitors, so if the Chiefs are interested in drafting him, a trade-up would likely have to happen. We’ll see how the board falls.
