The Las Vegas Raiders are on the lookout for some depth at running back. 2025 No. 6 overall pick Ashton Jeanty is their star in the backfield, but some reliable depth behind him would be good to add — something the Raiders didn’t have last season.

With Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza about to be the No. 1 overall pick and the future under center for the Raiders, Las Vegas is turning their attention to the offensive infrastructure around him. Wide receiver remains their biggest need on that side of the ball, but there’s no harm in shopping around for more running backs in the meantime.

On Friday, free agent RB Najee Harris visited the Raiders after previously visiting the Seahawks, per Pro Football Talk. After signing with the Chargers last offseason, Harris tore his Achilles early in the season, ending his run in Los Angeles prematurely. Now, he’s visiting with fellow AFC West member, the Las Vegas Raiders.

A former first-round pick out of Alabama by the Steelers in 2021, Harris spent four years in Pittsburgh. His best season came as a rookie, when he had 1,200 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, adding 74 receptions for 467 yards and three more touchdowns.

He followed that up in 2022 with 1,034 yards on the ground and seven touchdowns, with 41 receptions for 229 yards and three touchdowns. In 2023, he had 1,035 rushing yards and eight touchdowns along with 29 receptions for 170 yards. Finally, in 2024 he had 1,043 yards and six touchdowns, in addition to 36 receptions for 283 yards.

Harris had over 1,000 rushing yards every season in Pittsburgh, though he never averaged more than 4.1 yards per carry. If signed, the Raiders would be getting a valuable rotational running back, someone who can churn out tough yards and keep the offense on schedule when Jeanty needs a breather.

What Can the Las Vegas Raiders Expect from RB Ashton Jeanty in Year 2?

It wasn’t the banner rookie season many expected for Jeanty when he was selected No. 6 overall by the Raiders. The former Boise State Bronco struggled behind Las Vegas’ patchwork offensive line, and due to injuries Jeanty was often the only competent offensive playmaker on the field for the Raiders.

Still, you wouldn’t be crazy for expecting more from him than 975 rushing yards and five touchdowns, while only averaging 3.7 yards per carry. He did have 55 receptions for 346 yards and five more touchdowns, proving his versatility in the passing game.

In year two, Jeanty should have a more stable offense around him. I still believe in him — he was my No. 1 overall player in the 2025 draft class. Las Vegas should be excited about the future of their offense, between Jeanty, Mendoza, and star TE Brock Bowers. That’s a potent offensive core with room to grow.
